Bud Light x SXSW
Bud Light, the official beer of SXSW returned to the festival for the fourth consecutive year in March of 2018 and I was selected to redesign the packaging for the new can design for the Austin market. I was asked to find a partner to work with as the campaign’s mission was to highlight ‘friendship’ and all things Austin, TX. I included my close friend and fellow artist, Heath ‘MOUF’ Speakman as my collaborator. Together we created the one-of-a-kind aluminum bottle design that was featured around the city in celebration of the SXSW festival.
We were asked to create custom artwork and design elements that reflected ourselves as visual artists and illustrate what we loved about Austin, TX. This was a dream project for us, as we drew inspiration from our love of graffiti, street art, and notable places around the city. We intertwined elements of graffiti, which we attribute to the birth of each of our artistic styles with my love for vibrant colors and MOUF’s background of digital illustration to produce a funky representation of why Austin, TX is the place we call home.
These custom Austin-inspired aluminum bottles could be found throughout the greater Austin area wherever you buy Bud Light. The design elements were used on a highly viewed billboard in downtown Austin, custom guitars in the Austin airport, POS displays and we were each commissioned to do a live paint activation at a local venue.
Bud Light created a new initiative to donate $1 for every case sold that was donated to the Texas Music Office. The Texas Music Office has been serving the Texas music industry for nearly 30 years. Its mission is to create opportunity and connect businesses to help foster economic development of Texas music and musicians.
