About the Project
Art is power.
As artists, we’re in control of each pieces’ potential. All We Have Is Now is an expression of my conviction to how public art can emanate positive power.
This mural was designed for, and dedicated to my close friend, Carter Combs, who is no longer with us. In every movement I conjured up Carter’s bright soul and heart of gold to guide my hand. He poured out his love onto everyone and everything in the world around him inspiring the very essence and purpose of this mural. May we always remember that beneath the loss there is an abundance of beauty waiting. There is always growth. There is always healing.
The abstract background was not sketched out nor pre-designed, with the express intent to have a free-flowing, stream of consciousness design directly from the heart. Hand lettering was then added in the foreground to exemplify the fleetingness of life.
Life is beautiful and impermanent — much like mural artwork. There’s magic to be found in every moment, and within every project. But it can get messy, complicated, and bad shit happens sometimes. Life requires us to handle what comes and goes, to source gratitude and happiness in each moment; ultimately to enjoy the ride. All We Have Is Now is the representation of the gift Carter has given me and all those he has touched. Breathe it in and live it fully. Because the truth is, we do only have now, this moment, this day.
